I am assuming that you are still in high school...I was an A student in high school...it is not the coolest thing at that time, but it is worth it. I am currently getting my master's degree in clinical pscyhology and am still an A student and have made some of the best friends of my life who I do not have to dumb myself down for...so hang in there honey....it will be worth it someday!! And the two friends you have now are probably a lot more interesting than this other "popular" girl...

I guarantee you that your grades have little impact on how many friends you have. The most popular kid in my class was the valedictorian. The second highest ranked kid had problems with making friends, because she was a brat. What really matters is YOU. Are you nice to people? Do you talk to them? Are you shy? Do you help people when they need help? Are you selfish? Are you too choosy? Do you accept people for who they are? Do you participate in lots of activities? THESE kinds of things determine how many friends you have. Grades don't matter.
If you want to make more friends, I recommend this following:
1. Talk to people. If you are shy, then you need to work on getting over it. It is tough, but people don't tend to gravitate towards people who do not strike up conversations.
2. Treat everyone like you would like to be treated.
3. Get involved with activities that interest you. The more involved you are, the easier it is to make friends.
Good luck!
P.S. Don't neglect or undervalue your current friends! It is WAY better to have two good friends than a hundred shallow, cruddy ones.

having 2 best friends who will always be there for and with you is a lot better that 20 friends who are never there or who won't be there when you have a problem.
i have only 2 really close frinds and i can call anytime of the day and they will drop whatever and come to me.
straight As is also better that popularity because of career reasons.

I have straight A's and sometimes people get a little jealous because I'm a nerd who's pretty popular and people say I'm pretty too, and when some girls try to get me down I just ignore them. In the future they'll be working in Burger King and you'll be a successful woman.

I was considered a "smart one" in high school and wasn't considered cool. It changed when I went to college. Because of the structure of college, there really isn't an in-crowd that rules the school.
High school antics seems to never change and the only thing to do is to roll with it and know that after high school, none of it will matter.
