I'm trying to find ways to get him to socialize on his own. Cause if I just introduce him to my friends he'll feel dependent on me. And I'm leaving soon so that's a no-go.

Having been very shy myself while I was growing up. I can relate. I would freak out if someone were to ask me the time.

The first step is realizing you are shy.
The Second is wanting to change. It sounds like both of these apply.
Next, he needs to put himself out there, and make an effort to change, that means doing things that scare him, like interacting with strangers.
Also, he needs to ask himself "what are you afraid of, what is the worst that can happen"
Also, have him work on communication skills in chat rooms or discussion boards (it is annamous, and no danger) it will help to establish communication, and confidence.

Include him a few times in a row when your friends get together so that he'll be more comfortable.

Tell a funny story that happened to the two of you.

Make sure you include him in the conversation.....and before long he'll loosen up and be one of the crowd.

then you should make him want to socialize more, here's how you do it:

first you teach him to say some cool words like what's up or how's it going and encourage him to go into the crowd or something to introduce himself

secondly, you mentioned he's funny, tell him to tell some jokes to you and whether its that funny or not you laugh like you are telling him that his jokes are real funny then you convince him that funny guys are cool guys or something like that, you figure it out

thirdly, he knows you so he would want to talk to you and if you are around when he is talking to the crowd or something he would feel more comfortable

GOOD LUCK TO YOU

hey smiley, even i had a very good friend who was shy and didnt wish to socialize.but now its an absolutely new story.
well i feel you should first introduce him to your other friend(s).then you can invite both of them over to your place or can go to a concert together.you try and reveal his talent in class, which would create publicity and he'll be one of the popular kids.thats what you can do to help, rest is up to him.remember, you need need to struggle and win in life.well, all the best,

Always make him feel like a part of the group.Low self essteem was the cause of me feeling uneasy around new people.Give him time,he'll come out of it.Just remember to try to make him feel apart of the group.SHYNESS,can be a very lonely place.

Hmm....just have him with you when you talk to a big crowd of people. Introduce your friend, and if he finds something in common with the crowd he will be able to talk to them.

start with a small party with several people he knows mixed with some people that he isn't comfortable with. When he see's that he can do a good job with a little party then he might feel more comfortable within a larger group.

WELL I WAS LIKE THAT ONCE BUT I CAN TELL YOU I FELL REGRETS ABOUT THAT. TRY TO INTRODUCE HIM INTO A SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, LET'S SAY YOUR BEST FRIEND THEN IF THEY GET ALONG WITH HIM AND YOUR FRIEND WITH THEM THEN TRY TO PERSUADE HIM TO MEET YOUR OTHER FRIENDS AND SO ON. I REALLY DID NOT KNEW ALMOST NOBODY SO GOOD THAT I COULD HANG UP WITH THEM. BUT I HAVE OTHER FRIENDS WHO I GET OUT WITH. I TWAS LIKE THIS I KNEW A GUY , HE INTRODUCE ME TO OTHERS WI-CH HE HANGS WIT AND NOW I CAN SAY I DO HAVE GOOD FRIENDS. SO TRY TO GO EASY ON YOUR FRIEND AND THEN YOU TAKE HIM TO MEET OTHER PEPLE. GOOD LUCK .
