Typically the mother. The father can file for paternity and custody though if he wants. Be prepared to pay child support if you file for paternity because the Judge will assess that usually from the date of seperation, maybe from birth depending on whether or not you live with the person. Wierd I know all this, right?

As parents, both of u have responsabilities with the child. U cannot run away from it, u should have thought about it. But i think its best that the split happened while engaged and not married, that way u skip all the legal fees and a more than likely nasty court battle.

Wow, I can't believe you are asking such a question. If neither of you want the child call an attorney or adoption agency. Shame on you for even thinking such things though. Someone should put both of you away in a mental institution. Are you people from another planet. With that said, I feel sorry for the baby. It will never be a happy baby living with either of you. There are many good people looking to adapt.

Simply because they can not get along, doesn't mean they should abandon a child. They both still have a commitment to that child. They both should be taking care of the child, and put their petty differences aside for the good of the child.

I hope that both parents will take care of the baby. They broke up with each other, not with their child.

Just like any other split whether you were married or not, when there is a child involved, you settle it like a custody case or joint custody. hopefully, the parents can have a civil relationship for the child's sake.

One keeps it usually the most qualified. The other pays child support. I would get an attorney in order to establish custody.
