Jiggle the handle. Does that stop the water flow? Does it do it every time you try?

If so, it is the large rubber valve in the extreme bottom of the tank. Take the lid off the tank and look down. In approximately the center, you will see it. It is ususally black or redish.

If jiggling does not stop it, write here again and tell us what you see. There are other options, but this is the most likely.

Flush the toilet and you will see how it works. It is quite simple. See if it seems to be going down into the correct position, sometimes it is so bad that you will see it very easily. Most of the time, it looks okay but is not.

You might be able to straighten up that valve enough to fix it. Replacing it is quick, easy, and cheap.

Trust me, it's cheapest to call the plumber. They work by the hour (about $75/hr plus parts) so you can have them fix anything else at the same time. I had a kitchen sink drain plug up and tried to fix it myself. This cost me 3 times as much because of the damage I did with just a plunger.

It can be either two things. Might be the flapper that is not sealing properly with the flush valve. The flapper may need replacing. If it's not that it's the fill valve, it might be worn out and need replacing. The float is no longer able to shut off the valve. Depending on the age of the toilet it might be either or both problems

It feels like the ballcock, the valve in the tank of your lavatory, is leaking. as quickly because it leaks sufficient to fill the tank to the precise of the overflow tube, the water starts off going on the overflow into the bowl. i'd replace the ballcock valve. they are not very costly and alternative is rather elementary. purely stick to the instructions that comprise the hot unit. frequently, no approaches are required. you need to purchase a clean ballcock valve at purely approximately any ironmongery keep or at Lowe's or homestead Depot. suited of success.
