Hi :)

I'm foreign, 20 yrs old , I have a pretty decent life in America but still I don't like it..
Please do not get offended. I know some will say go back to your country, I really can't wait to do that but I have to stay here until I get my masters degree in 4 years.. This is a good country to make money, get a good job,it has a very good education system, but still :(

I am feeling depressed ever since I came to this country.. I got separated from my friends, my best friend, my boyfriend , and everyone...
I only have my parents and my brother here...

After 2 years of long distance relationship my BF brokeup with me..

I miss him and I miss my friends and I can't seem to get along with Americans, not enough to have STRONG friendships..

The problem is, everyone here ia pressuring me to forget my past and start a new life, to date a local guy (there is nothing wrong with them they'r cute) and have Local friends..

Is there anything wrong with me?

No there is nothing wrong with you. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time in this country. I don't believe you should forget about the past, but I do think you need to start dealing with the fact that you live here now and you can't leave yet. If I were you, I'd try to find some people that live around you that share your hobbies and interests. Try to get up and out. If you find some new friends, I'm sure life here wont be so bad. Just give a try, you really don't have anything to lose.

Good Luck!

Theres nothing wrong with you, its just how you're feeling. Feelings are understandable. I was born here, and I live here and sometimes my feelings about here arent that good either. The crap thats going on with the country and the government stinks, and some people in this country are careless, criminals, and self-centered. If you left a lot to experience alittle then I'm sure you do feel depressed. If you're not happy, do something about it. If moving back where you came from is the way to do it, best of luck to you. Losing friends and a boyfriend I'm sure is hard. Sometimes you just gotta try to make the best out of a "bad" situation. I mean once things are down around you, they can only go up, ya? America is the land of opportunities, but are you guarenteed a happy, and exciting life? Not always. Partially, life is make you make it. I hope things get better for you.

You are just still not over your move I know that its been 2 years and your halfway over your four years but you must be a person who hates change.

Try and look at the next two years as a learning experience you may never have this opportunity again. You are home sick and all these emotional feelings that you are experiencing are preventing you to make the most of where you are now.

I don't think you should forget your past, just accept that things change in life and according to what you wrote there is a chance for another change once you get your masters, usually a new job, you will meat colleagues, your peers. Enjoy life and everything it has to offer you today, there may not be a tomorrow. Peace.

It's totally normal to feel that way. Our family moved to a different country, and we all took time to get used to it. After more than 7 years, it's still not home, though there are great things about it.

If you have to stay, just throw yourself into your studies and the friendships will come with time. Strong friendships take awhile to develop. Don't give in to the pressure to forget your past. But do try to live today!

Are there any groups at your university for expats or people from your country? Good luck! Hugs.

Why do you need to have a Master's degree? A large percentage of American citizens don't have a Master's degree (>90%). It sounds like you are homesick and need to at least take a break from your studies and go back home for a time and talk with your friends. You can't live your life by what others want for you. I am American and am sorry that you can't seem to get along with people here. There are some nice people in America.

Honey there is nothing wrong with being home sick , it has nothing to do with you not liking America it has to do with your past and where you were born. i know if i ever Left the USA i know with out a doubt i would miss my home and my family and friends so it's OK to be home sick, just don't make it look like you are using my country for your education. and it seems like it so if i where you I would not be so open to telling Americans about how you feel and you in this country getting an education lol

As far as loving your country goes. This is not your country, so you love the one your from. Nothing wrong with that. And as far as friends go. They are hard to find anywhere you are. Maybe your standards are high.

You might not be opening yourself up to new experiences. You sound like you are isolating yourself.
