Well, I know what it is. I just don't get why we need it. Why is it an essential need in chemistry?

To further the previous thread...

Thanks to Atomic Theory not only do we understand our world better but:

we developed electricity (by better understanding chemistry); we understand radioactivity (for medicine, power as well as geologic history); all gas laws are derived from it (think Avogadro); Many explanations of cellular biological functions are aided; and we now have the means to understand many things about the origin of our universe through its offshoot; Quantum theory.

Much of High School science is directly related to Atomic theory in one way or another.

Of course we need it. The atomic theory explains how we undestand all chemical bonding and all chemistry and is the basis of chemistry and phystics.
