I have never heard of a disconnect due to inactivity, plus it sounds like you are using the internet when you are disconnected. Have you used any of the network connection troubleshooting tools which come with Windows XP? Like Ping, Path Ping, IP Address problems with DHCP--Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, NAT--Network Address Traanslation device problems, etc?

When you are disconnected, is it that you have a solid connection but are unable to access internet sites, getting an error of, Page Not Found, or are you completely disconnected? These are different problems with different solutions. With the information provided, it is impossible to really help diagnose your issue.

Have you went to one of the Microsoft Community Newsgroups and posted your problem there? If you do decide to post at a Microsoft Newsgroup, make sure you post to the correct one, and tell them detailed information about your computer configuration, network configuration, and any and all troubleshooting steps you have already performed. The experts get a bit testy when newbies come online and just say: "Hey, my router quit working, please help me". lol

The above link is to the Windows XP Newgroup Networking and the Web. In order to participate you will need a Net Passport, which is simply a hotmail or wiindows live mail account, and you use that e-mail address and password for signing in. These groups are great, and it is even possible you could simply do a search of the newsgroup for simular past posted issues and get answers without having to post your own question. I know they like you to first do the search before posting anyway, so go ahead and try, you may get a solution quickly.

Now, the tools I was telling you about are accessable through the Help Center in your computer. The version of OS you are using will determine which type of tools are available to you, which is one strong reason it is so important to provide such information in any question for assistance, even here.

Good luck and have a nice day.
