I'm Swedish, and would gladly have recommended Sweden or Finland anyday, perfect for a nature lover liking solitude - if it hadn't been for a honeymoon in January. It's dark and generally unpleasant weather at that time; cold, dark and rainy (sometimes snowy) in the southern and central parts, colder, darker and snowy (sometimes rainy) in the north. But if you really like it cold and snowy, the far north is a great place, very beautiful. The ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi is world famous. The entire hotel is built of ice and snow, and melts down when summer comes. It's a fantastic place to visit, and a few days of a honeymoon spent there would be unforgettable; a unique experience. And you actually sleep warm - in thermal sleeping bags on ice beds covered by reindeer skins, or in ordinary heated rooms. There are also many excursions arranged from there - see http://www.icehotel.com/ .

But if you don't like it cold and dark - go to Spain or Greece in January. Not that it can't be bad weather there, too, at that time, and I don't think it's exactly warm. Some places are really cold even in Spain in winter. And a good thing about Sweden is that the in-house temperature is comfortable, since the houses are built for cold winters.

If you are a jeweller, you might find Scandinavian jewelry very interesting. Finnish jewelry especially often combines age-old traditions with very modern concepts. The Saami, the indigenous culture in the North of Scandinavia, have a very special traditional handcrafted jewelry.

For the warm: Key West: Mentioned a dozen times already but it was also the first thing that came to mind, primarily due to the weather. Although Key West is pretty commercialized, so if you are looking for something a little more romantic, maybe one of the other keys would be better. Big Pine Key is my favorite. St. Augustine, FL: The oldest city in the country and its a cross between a quaint old town and a giant tourist trap. I still love it though. It's a must if either are you are history buffs. The B&B scene here is huge, and many of them claim to be haunted (extra reason to snuggle close at night!) Orlando, FL: Disney has all kinds of honeymoon packages that can be lots of fun. If you are looking to act like a kid again, and money isn't an issue - this could be an option. Plus the first two weeks of December are the closest thing to a ghost town Disney ever gets. You guys could avoid the crowds and really enjoy the place. If you are more into adventure and hiking - hit Death Valley National Park. You can camp, rent a cabin, rent a room in the fancy (so-to-speak) hotel. December is a great time to go and it's so unique and beautiful here. Less so in August when you can't get out of your airconditioned car - but perfect in December. Again, more beautiful sunsets and hiking: Grand Canyon National Park. December has such a low mortality rate (only half joking), the weather is perfect during this time, sometimes even a little cold. A great time to try to hike the rim if you are so inclined, and if you aren't - they have hotels (lodges?) with some of the most incredible views you'll ever get. Cruises: You get treated like royalty, you can eat all you want, visit interesting ports and really really relax. Perfect way to spend the first week as bride and groom. For the cold: Niagra Falls: They say the rushing water increases the amount of positive ions in the air, making everyone happy - hence the reputation of the honeymoon capital of the world or country or something. I love Niagra in winter - the water mist sticks to trees and coats everything a shimmering white, like it's all covered in diamond dust or something. The area around Niagra is a bit toursity, but still some fun things to do. Rocky Mountains, CO: perfect if you want to ski or you're looking for a reason to drink champagne in front of the fire! Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the cold, so I'm having a hard time trying to remember cold places I enjoyed. But I did remember 2! hehe. I hope you find the place that suits you best and enjoy your honeymoon.

Find out about the weather of your destination. Here's a good site:

http://www.wunderground.com

Just type the name of a country or city of your wish and you'll get a lot of information.

What kind of a honeymoon do you wish.. a cosy, romantic one or more of adventurous and exotic?

Oh yes, and one more tip: coming from Finland, if you decide to come here, you might want to go to the North. It's very beautiful there and you'll have a great chance of experiencing that Winter Wonderland up there. I live in the south of Finland and it's rainy here. You'll find some of the cleanest and freshest nature and living conditions in the whole world.

The weather in Spain doesn't seem to be to great either.. around 8-15 'C in most of the places around the country.

After all, it's the choice of you 2 :).

Greece! The Scandinavian countries sound very cold and dark at this time of year. Greece is mostly known for summer vacations, but the mainland is a mountainous and beutiful place for winter. For a honeymoon, I would recommend Monemvasia (Malvasia), a most romantic medieval town, or Zagorochoria, a beautiful mountainous area with picturesque villages, rivers, lovely for hiking, riding, etc. Also the Meteora, huge rocks on top of which are hanging old monasteries. A passage from Athens is a must, to visit the monuments, and perhaps you could also go to Syros, a nice island with neoclassical architecture, which won't be very touristic now, but it won't be completely deserted either. If you do go to Syros, try to book at "Archontiko Vourli" or "Syrou Melathron", it's worth it for your honeymoon. Email me if you need more info.

You may find solitude in Spain if you really look hard, but the Nordic countries are a sure bet.
Also the nature is pure and still unspoilt in many areas.

Check out these national parks, they are really great:
