It is just fine to treat yourself to something nice now and then. At least you *know* that you might have gone too far. Many people don't think about this at all. You have obviously had a good upbringing and know the value of a penny.

I do this for myself from time to time. And feel a little guilty too. Treat yourself right now and then but remember your budget before you do this too often.

You are just fine! Give yourself a break--enjoy the new dress!

No, I don't want to tell you something worse! You've done nothing wrong! A good way to not feel guilty about buying an expensive dress (especially when you are a college student) is to remind yourself that it is an investment in your future -- because you will be having many opportunities to need to get dressed up professionally and socially as you proceed into the adult world after graduation. As long as you try to buy with a keen eye toward a quality product and to something that is a timeless fashion that won't go out of style the very next year, and as long as you take good care of the item (getting it properly cleaned, etc.), it's not a frivolous thing for you to want to build a nice wardrobe of tasteful, expensive clothes. This is how you will want to present yourself to the world. Be sure your next expensive treat for yourself is some kind of professional suit to balance things out, and you are on your way! Don't feel bad about this at all. (And while you're at it, get yourself some very good, expensive shoes and a matching bag, because the shoes are the first thing people really notice when they are sizing up your outfit. You can't go wrong with good quality, expensive shoes. They speak volumes.)

i take it as your a student you hardly have any spare cash, work far too hard studying, have a poor pain part time job to pay for your studies...am i close? in which case, why should you feel guilty? so what...you saw a dress which you loved, you obviously had the cash at the time, so why not, treat yourself for once, are you going to wear it more than once so get your moneys worth, if you never really go clothes shopping then dont feel guilty just do your hair, make up, put the dress on and have a good night feeling sexy wearing it.
i have spent loads on clothes in the past, now i have a baby i had to calm down, i spent all my money i was going to buy my familys pressies with on my baby daughters clothes over xmas, so i didnt get my mum anything, but my baby's got a full wardrombe, i kinda feel guilty about that

I bought a Fiat Punto on a whim, didn't really need it because I had the use of another car. Whenever I drove it anywhere and stopped, it wouldn't start again. I put it back into the car showrooms twice, wasn't fixed, then main agents, wasn't fixed, £300 bill. Phoned the previous owner in the log book and he said it was always rubbish. Sold it that week and lost £800. £1100 loss in 3 weeks and nothing to show for it.
You've got the fantastic dress.

My worries can be resolved without worrying about them, but solving them. So can your guilt about the dress. At least you can use what you spent your money on. Most of us are careless with our funds we end up having nothing to show for what we spent out money on. I assume that you like the dress or you would not have bought it, and that you look good in it and it makes you feel good. There is nothing wrong with splurging on yourself one in a while. The sin comes in when you begin to devote your life to spending money that you have not got and you end up in a disastrous situation. Keep the dress and enjoy it, but let it be a reminder to you that luxury always has a price tag to it----every month when you pay on the bill you will be reminded of this. This can turn out to be a good thing for you in that you can learn a valuable lesson about personal finances.

yes.

Myself and a few freinds went to london armed with our student loans (i think my first installment was about 900 quid)
We decided to go in harolds and a different shop (can't rem name now but really really expensive)

Anyway, I brought a pair of jeans/trousers and a nice flashy shirt, Kathrine Hamlet or something, really expensive; for both products came to 500 quid.

We went on the raz that night in london and cos we were soooo drunk we jumped the taxi. he chased us and I jumped over one of them spiked fences to get away. I ended up ripping the trousers from the groin area all the way down, when i got back to the hotel I realized I'd spilt beer and stuff all over my new shirt. Took to dry cleaners and they could not get the stains out.

So £500 on clothes wasted plus I spent another £250 on booze and accomodation.

I was very poor on my 1 st year of UNI.!!!

Girl, I thought you really did something. Get over it. If you're pockets are hurting next week, just remember it for next time, I guess. if it makes you feel any better, when I was 18, I bought a 400 dollar Coogi dress to wear to a college party and only got to wear it two times because it's not the kind of thing you can wear over and over and Coogi got played out really quick. End up giving it away.

By the way, Bluefly.com has designer clothes marked down.

It's okay, I once went out and just too look nice for a wedding i bought some extremly expensive strappy shoes. I only wore tham once. And during the wedding i was a brides maid. I stood in those shoes for about 1hour. They hurt soooo bad. I had to take them off. They went back in the box and never came back out. All that money for 1 hour of pain.

Unless you or your family are going with out food because of the price of the dress it ain't that bad really. I've done many things worse than this like telling someone that I can't go to the party cus my aunty died and then sitting in all night playing on the computer (both parents are only kids!).

I just bought a pair of $300 shoes, which I can usually never fathom. But, I just had to have them. They have 4 in. heels and hurt like h*** but I wear them a lot because they are cute and cost a lot. Don't feel so bad - as long as you dont make it a habit. And make sure you actually wear the dress.
