Easily accessible media has often been blamed for "influencing" or "promoting" especially in relation to games such as Manhunt and Grand Theft Auto, rappers and violent films have also come under scruntiny in the past few years.
Is it fair to blame these media types when the majority of people enjoy them responsibly, or should there be tighter restrictions on such forms of violent media which could potentially teach the next generation that violence is O.K. ?

personally i dont think that the media will influence crime... not as much as they influence other things... like being skinny to look like a celebrity ect.... i mean, if you watch the texas chainsaw massicre, it doesnt mean your going to become a nutcase and take a chainsaw to the community... i think parents need to be harsher in dicipline and give their children some sense

I believe in some form the media can have an influence on the adolescent or pre- teen portion of our communities. For example I have a three year old son and up until a few months ago he had no interest in fighting with swords or anything of that sort, it was after watching the power rangers that he started being aggressive with other children and even in our home. we have since discontinued letting him watch the power rangers and he has subsequently calmed back down. I do believe that we should be aware of what our children are watching on T.V. and if you are going to let them watch something with violence in it that you need to try to explain that it is acting and that the people they are watching wouldn't want them trying the things they see at any time.

Yes I do, too many explicit facts put ideas into young heads that otherwise probably wouldn't be there. It is not only the young but the slightly deranged adults as well that can be affected. Explicit news should be banned from newspapers and watershed on the television as it is aimed at the adult population really.

In a global media network, it would be virtually impossible to restrict coverage and in a so called Democracy [UK]crime must be reported. Inevitably, this in theory can promote or encourage crime.

No the media doesn't influence crime. That's just a "scape goat" for people who don't want to take responsibility for their actions.
