Run the networking wizard on xp and choose make networking disk when it asks. When done, put the disk in the 98 PC and run it. This is assuming you have the 2 PCs connected to a router.....

Install Network card on both pc. Get a Cross-Over cable. Assign static IPs of same class on both system, u may use,
192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0
192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0

thats all u need to network 2 PCs.
for setting IP on XP, right click on MY NETWORK PLACES, then its properties. then double click on Local connection.
Click on TCP/IP then its Properties.

for win98, sorry i dont remember exact path. :P

If both PC's have network capabilities all you'll need is a Cat5 crossover cable. Run the network set-up wizard and you should be good to go!

you're able to do it by using the two a hub or without one. in case you at the instant are not applying a hub the ethernet cable could be pass-over( you will get them in any workstation shop). next step for you is start up >my community locations>view community connection> double click the community card > residences>internet IP protocol>residences Assign an IP handle like this 192.168.a million.a million subnet mask 255.255.255.0 do the same for you childrens yet ip could be 192.168.a million.2 then in start up button click run type cmd it is going to take you to command instant. in case you're on you workstation (ip no 192.168.10.a million) then type "ping 192.168.10.2" this could tutor replying in some milli sec. if it shows "request timed out" then the relationship isn't working. in any different case the relationship is working. after which you may "upload a community place" wizard interior the "my community place". good success
