Why does Miss Yvonne have the title "Miss" before her name?

Miss Yvonne is a character from Pee-wee's Playhouse. I'm just wondering why she has the title "Miss" before her name.

She remains "Miss" because alas her paramour Cowboy Curtis grew up, stopped square dancing, changed his name to Morpheus, moved to Zion and got rid of the cool hat. And he was the only acceptable single guy on the show. I mean...would YOU marry someone named "Pee Wee" ?
