Not really, although there is still the government approved racism: Affirmative Action.

Uh, doesn't the fact that he's the FIRST black governor, in one of the nation's most progressive states no less, kind of answer your question? If racism wasn't a problem, he wouldn't be the first. You show me a black governor of Alabama, and I'll concede the nation as a whole is overcoming racism effectively.

That FACT is YES, racism IS still a problem, BUT, I see it fading as the older crowd(s) die(s) off, seriously. As the new generations grow and learn, it gets better and better! :)

Look at how much has changed between the 60's and now, due mostly to Dr. King, and other Civil Rights Activists, but their legacy lives on, and instilled peace and harmony in MANY people, and so carried on to the next generation. It's just a matter of time, and everyone "will get a long" :)

Todays 50 year olds and below, are way more open to LIFE than the 50 year olds and older.

Black governor or not racism is alive and well and doing just fine . When you look at employment statistics you can see not only racism but sexism . Only a blind ignorant fool does not see the racism in America .

im from the south too. racism is still extremely prevalent, believe me. whether is blacks, mexicans, or homosexuals, groups are still targeted and hated by people in the south. most of it comes from the older generations, but the south tends to pass on their beliefs to their children, so the problem never goes away. it is decreasing in the college aged people who go to school, but many others do not. massachusetts is very advanced in their social issue. other states need to follow suit quickly before its too late. so yes, racism is still a very prominent, negative thing.

Sadly, racism is a problem still. Though, it depends on where you live. (obviously, Massachussetts doesn;t have a problem with racism) but other places do, and other people do.I hope that one day, NO WHERE will have racism, or at the very least, people will learn to keep it to themselves And NOT teach their children to be the same way.

Yes, racism is a problem and will always be a problem. This answer isn't PC, but I don't care. People will like to be with "like" people, whether "like" is financially, color of skin, ethnicity, or language spoken, etc... I am white and middle class. You can call me a racist if you want to, but I don't want to raise my family in the middle of Compton. I don't want to raise my kids in little Habana and it has nothing to do with me being a racist. These areas are crime infested hell holes. The same can be said of the trailer park in Kentucky. "Like" is more comfortable to most people - it's what there used to and as humans, we want and seek comfort and security. That's why all these PC do-gooders are a bunch of crap - they talk and preach one thing, then drive their Volvo home to their gated, segregated communities. Name one example of a place where racism doesn't exist? You can't do it because it's a fallacy or utopian thinking to think that you can get rid of it.

It's not nearly as bad as it once was, but yes, racism still exists in the US. Around 1999, four rednecks tied a Black man to their truck and dragged him along the ground. There's the Abner Luima (sp) sodomy and the Amadu Dialo (sp) shooting in NYC. And did you see Borat?

Racism will always exist on some level. There are people who, either through personal experiences, or what their parents/elders have taught them will dislike others due to their skin color, religion, heritage, etc.

The biggest problem in this country is the legalized racism endorsed by the government. If you are a minority, you get all sorts of special privileges and perks that aren't enjoyed by tax-paying white people.

A rich black kid has a much easier life than a poor white kid, but the government will always give the extra perks to the black kid - extra points on college entrance exams, extra points on civil service tests, extra credit to their employers for hiring the right number of minorities, etc.

Why is government-endorsed racism against white people ok?

Anonymous W I agree. And its not just in the South, I've lived Midwest and Eastcoast. It still happens everyday in both places. Any idiot who thinks racism is not still a problem, more than likely, are bigots themselves.
