Pediatrics- Deals with small children, many with fears and people with facial/oral problems and the mentally disabled.
Oral Surgery - Taking out teeth. Wisdom and others.
Orthodontics - Corrective straightening with braces/appliances. May also do TMJ therapy.
Periodontics- Treatment of gum disease.
Endodontics - Root canal therapy specialist
General Dentistry
Implantology- Deals with patients who lost a tooth and are seeking an implant. More insurance companies don't cover this procedure so look for a good collection system to get your cash patients to pay.
Another way to go is work in a lab. You don't need to be a dentist to do this however. You would make crowns, dentures, partials or whatever you deemed your specialty.
I work in a dentist office so if you have any questions about a certain specialty, please feel free to ask!

Orthodontist or implantologist are worthy specializations. More serious surgeries, big bucks. Although, it is the little stuff like routine cleanings that keeps the practice afloat. It all depends on what kind of a dental practice you are most interested in.

Implants are hot right now. We have an aging population, and the implants can be used to replace dentures.
