Last night I went to bed at 12:30 and woke up at 10:30 today and I feel exhausted still. This is very common. I'll get 8-10 hours of sleep and still wake up ridiculously tired. Ive tried going to bed at the same time, controlling light exposure (dark at night, light in morning), and relaxing for 30 minutes before bed. I fall asleep fast and typically stay asleep at night. I do not believe that I snore (I have my tonsils and adnoids removed). My sleeping environment is quiet. Everything SHOULD be ok for me to get a good night's rest. If I get 10 hours of sleep, I should be jumping out of bed ready to run a marathon but, instead, I have to drag myself out. Finally, when I want to wake up early, I sabotage myself in my half awakened state when my alarm goes off early and turn it back 30-60 minutes and not realize this until after I wake up (late).

I have no other health problems and take nothing on a daily basis. Not even a multivitamin (I stopped taking that to rule it out as a cause).

I sleep on an absolutely amazing Tempurpedic mattress pad but, even when Im at home on break on a regular bed, I encounter this problem.

Your mattress might need replacing...oh and don't forget to replace the boxspring also.
If your using a water mattress try a conventional mattress and box spring.

Well there are a number of things that could be causing you to feel tired in the mornings... Are you drinking and / or eating stimulants before bed time? ie caffeine, chocolate, high sugar or fat containing foods? Try to eat a moderate meal that doesnt contain too much of the afore mentioned ingredients. Are you excercising too close to bedtime? You need to wait 2 to 3 hours after excercising before you go to bed. Are you on any medication? For instance Lexapro (an anti anxiety / depression medication) gives you very vivid dreams and night sweats so you may wake up exhausted in the mornings despite a long sleep. Are you sure you dont snore or have sleep apnea? It might help to have your partner / parents check up on you during the night. Are you Iron deficient? Anemia will tire you out like nothing youve ever felt before! I was anemic during my late teens and could barely move from the lounge to my bed, i was so tired. Go and have your blood tested. You could try the following to help you sleep better... At night if you eat a small amount of diary ie a cheese sandwich it helps produce a sleep enhancing hormone (Tryptophan) but you cannot overload on the dairy cause the fat and protein will negate the effects. Try camomile tea or herbal supplements ie Valerian herb. This is a natural remedy and may take a few days to work, but it may help you to have a deeper, more relaxed sleep. Make sure your room is not too hot or too cold. Otherwise your sleep will be restless and disturbed. And see a doctor to make sure that there is not anything further wrong with you. Get your blood checked for iron deficiency and other vitamins. And sweet dreams :)

You are probably getting too much sleep. I had the same problem. It was like the more I got the more I wanted. I slowly reduced the hours I was sleeping till it was 5 or 6. Now I wake up refreshed and ready to go!

Even though you've had your tonsils removed, you may still be snoring or having apneas (where you stop breathing) in your sleep. There are other causes of sleep disruption as well. You might want to talk to your doctor about this - he or she may suggest a 'sleep study' where you sleep in a center and they monitor your sleep for disruptions you aren't aware of. You may not be getting enough REM sleep, for instance, which will affect your quality of life.

Wow. It seems like you have it all covered, but it does still sound like you are not getting the real restful sleep you need. I would really consider going to a sleep clinic. (I'm not sure if it's possible for a person to really tell on their own if they are staying asleep. We can wake hundreds of times and not be aware of it.) They will be able to tell if you are reaching REM sleep. If you aren't, even 24 hours in bed -- presumed to be "asleep" -- isn't going to rejuvenate you. Good luck.

your iron may be low. My iron and blood pressure are low and it makes me stay tired even after a good nights sleep. You could try a vitamin and it may help.
