Magazines and TV and radio. Be careful what you choose though. A lot of movies and TV are really very bad grammar, and "fun" phrases that are stale by the end of the program. If you stick to Public Radio and TV you should be ok.

Reading magazine articles will give you a good feel for sound alike words and phrases like: "Should have" which too many people think is spelled "Should of" since that's how it's pronounced.

Use it.

I never found tv especially helpful. Films with subtitles are only ok when they translate correctly. Thats not often by the way.

Learn what you can from books and reading but you will make faster progress by immersing yourself in the language.

Listen to people and ask questions. Be prepared to make mistakes and learn to laugh at yourself.

How are you reading this by the way?

The best way to learn is to USE it!

Find anyone that will have a conversation with you and speak to them. You hear different accents and styles of speaking.

Whatever you don't understand, ask! You can build your vocabulary (and slang vocabulary) that way.

Whenever you learn a new word, write it down and think of ways you can use the word in your everyday speech.
