I ws just watcing cops (I am a ittle addicted) and a mother and teenage daughter were fighting.
The daughter got arrested because the mother has the right to hit her kid but the kid has no right to hit back.
Why was the law not protecting the vunerable?

It's a disgusting law. Apparently, the whole 'All men were created equal' did not go into play...even though these two are women, the concept is still the same. It's really stupid if you ask me. Why the law is not protecting the vunerable? I guess the better question to ask is why doesn't the police do anything about it and realize that parents are supposed to be role models....not abusers. So taking the kid to jail wasn't the right thing to do. Rather, take the mother to jail, make her learn a lesson and hopefully the child will learn from that.

This sounds a little confused, are you talking about real cops being followed by a TV crew or just a TV soap? Reality is a bit more complex than TV soaps, also police don't always interpret the law properly. There are laws to protect children, could be that you should write to the TV company or the chief constable.
I don't know about American cops but British police would need a very good reason to make a lawful arrest of a minor.

Some of todays kids are extremely disrespectful and abusive. I do agree with the first answer though that women or mothers (some) get off so easily on horrendous crimes.
I can tell you though that if either of my daughters hit me, they'll be sorry they did. I would not hesitate to stop her in her tracks and deal with it. Why is it that people can't see that some teens are really out of control? Although it would help to know the whole story on this one. Maybe the daughter got arrested because she is abusive or has a bad history and this was the last straw.

Nothing wrong with a little corporal punishment to keep a kid in line. But a child that hits a parent is breaking a fundamental law - honor your father and mother - and deserves everything the law can throw at them.

Are you on crack or something?
Surely the police would favour the child is she was endangered- but obviously she was ASSAULTING her mother, the grubby young slag, and being a right pain in the Khyber.
You have no idea what the argument was about, what precipitated it and whether the girl would even be charged (perhaps teh arrest was simply a ruse to separate them).
If you're a father, kindly grow up and think like one.

Sorry Bob, I disagree completely. One of the problems with today's society is that parents are affraid of disciplining there children at all for fear of going to jail. Now I'm not advocating beating them to a pulp, but when I was a kid, we got swatted in the azz at school for a reason. There are laws protecting the vulnerable, they've been in place for years.

It seems that mothers can do just about anything they want and get a slap on the hand these days, even right down to murdering their own children. Andrea yates murdered 5 children and she gets a few years in the looney bin and the right to have more children when she is released.

I don't which law it is. But, I have a 16 year old daughter and if she ever hit me, she's gone. I will not put up with abuse from my own child.
