You shouldnt get over it.... Not entirely, anyway. Our fears protect us from harm and there definately are some harmful spiders out there.....ie..the brown recluse, the black widow, etc.... We need to have enough fear in us to keep us safe from little critters like them.

However, I'm an arachnophobic. I have been since the second grade when I encountered a huge tarantula crawling down my bedroom wall one night. I ran....screaming from the room....

As an adult, I'm not quite as fearful as I was then. I can see a 'daddy long legs' and not freak out. Ditto for other harmless spiders. But! I don't want them on me....or near me, either.

I think you should get more familiar with the species that are out there and in this way, you'll be able to lessen some of the fear and also protect yourself at the same time.

Good luck......

There are only 3 kinds of spiders I don't like, big ones, little ones and live ones. I live in Texas and we sure have plenty of them. I have heard that people learn to handle them to get over a spider phobia. If I see them I kill them, sometimes it's an over kill, I won't go into the back yard shed, I let my husband do that. The way I see it I just plain don't feel the need to make friends with them. Good luck

I used to hate spiders so much that I couldn't get close enough to them to kill them........then I got a divorce and began living alone with my kid......someone's got to get rid of them. I once let a spider live up in the corner in my bathroom because I could see she killed other bugs that got into the house. Then she had babies and there were about a million tiny spiders on the ceiling of my bathroom. I got over my fear rather quickly. Nothing a few tissues can't fix. Once there was a spider the size of a quarter on the wall in my bathroom....i had been doing some remodeling and I'm sure that I unearthed it and disturbed it......it freaked me out, but not so much that I didn't have time to grab my camera and a giant can of spider killing spray....it was way too big to smush with a kleenex.

Lets just say that if we didnt have spiders, then the mosquito population would have eaten us alive and we wouldnt be here! Personally I love spiders-if I find one in the house, I never kill it (thats bad luck!)--I just either pick it up with my hands or scoop it into a cup and let it outside!
