My grandma's birthday is coming up and I want to make a big heart out of papier mache. And instead of newspaper I want to glue pictures of all of the family and her. Is that possible?? Can I find a heart shaped balloon??

You can find mylar heart shaped balloons at almost any party supply store and yes you can use pictures of the family as the outer layer of the paper mache. Only be sure to use color copies instead of actual photos because the photo paper is not as pliable as copier paper and may warp when covered with the glue. I suggest 2 layers of newspaper and glue first and allow to dry completely before applying the pics and when you do this use a decoupage medium rather than the glue so it will dry clear and you won't have a cloudy or uneven finish.

If you want the heart to be hollow (empty from the inside, which is I guess what you want. Cuz you said "how do i get the paper out after the mache' has dried?") just get a heart shaped balloon, blow it up, paper mache it, and hang it to dry. When its all dried up, insert a pin in the place thats around the knot you tied for the balloon (or any other place, but I always do that) and pop the balloon :) If the heart you're doing doesnt need to be hollow, just do it using paper and keep the crumpled paper inside..
