Yes,I believe if we would drop Party Affiliation would change to whole way of looking at things! We would then vote our conscience and values and not our Party. Which by the way is how we got this way to begin with!

One very practical reason we should not is that the person we vote for in our district or state affects what party will control Congress and have much more power with respect to setting the agenda.

As long as we have parties, we should know what party leadership they will vote for - Nancy Pelosi or Newt Gingrich, Ted Kennedy or Trent Lott.

Winning candidates almost NEVER vote for the other party's leadership. (Doing so is in essence switching parties.) It's not as unlikely as being bitten by a shark while visiting the Grand Canyon, but almost. :)

PS Interesting experiment! Thought provoking.

I think no, because people want to express themselves as to what they stand for, and usually following a party, says for them what they can't say. I however, agree with you that people should educate themselves before marking a ballot, and not doing it blindly. I always skip a vote I don't know about, like when voting for judges, for example. I don't know who they are, and what kind of stances they take, so I don't vote for them. Also, on issues, I do all I can to investigate it before marking Yea or Nay. I am so sorry though, that so many people either don't care or understand that their vote effects everyone, and should not be played with, as a passing fancy, hurry up and get it done! That is just purely wrong! Also, removing party names endanger's our freedom of choice.

People would probably just memorize names and still vote party lines.. but it's a thought at least.. that's more than a lot of people are giving.

Nope, don't think so.

If we do that, we are no better than Georgies friends over in the middle east.
