I mean honestly, do you really think America is going to be able to stop a civil war that has been fought for thousands and thousands of years by blowing up more people in that nation? What is the point of this stupid war?

No, nobody really believes that anymore. But there is nothing weirder than the idea that the insurgents will "follow" our troops home! They are fighting for the freedom of Iraq! Do people expect them to swim to America next??

You have to define win, will we be able to leave Iraq anytime soon and have them take control of their country. I doubt it. We will need a presence there for many years and even then I am not sure that the Iraqi people will accept a puppet government set up by the U.S. I think civil war will and is happening right now. The dumb part was even going to Iraq in the first place. I as with many people believed in going to Afghanistan, as that was where the perpetrators of the attack of 9/11 were and we needed to take care of that first. We haven't even fixed that problem yet. In answer to your question, militarily we have won in Iraq already, but philosophically we will never be able to win. The Iraqi people can only win that.

"a civil war that has been fought for thousands and thousands of years" ... Wrong. You think they've been fighting at this level all the time for thousands of years? Or are you wildly exaggerating? Saddam stopped the street-violence, but his methods were pretty much just as bad as the violence now. But the street-violence did stop.

"by blowing up more people" ... What makes you think this is the proposed tactic? Are you objecting to the use of force in ANY circumstance? Did you object when the Allies fought against Hitler? Sorry, sometimes violence is moral.

I think America can win this war. Maybe we need a large increase in American troops in Iraq. Maybe we need to fight more fiercely (these "rules of engagement" I hear about).

Basically, the American PEOPLE need to stiffen their backbones. It is shameful to lose your will to win.

By the way, the idea that our enemies are fighting for the freedom of Iraq is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Some ideas are so astoundingly stupid they're beyond response.

If winning the war means the US now has control over Iraq and Afghanistan's oil, consider it a win, and that is the point of this "stupid" war.

Thank you for your intelligent question....

Yes, we can win this war. We won't win it by JUST killing people. It's my job to carry out the non-lethal stuff. WE aren't doing all the killing, by the way. The Iraqis are doing a good job by themselves.

As far as calling this a civil war, it's not. It's sectarian violence. It has less to do with politics and more to do with revenge.

The point of this war is to prove that an Arab Muslim country CAN live in peace as a democracy, giving its people freedoms that were lacking 35 years before.

Don't get me wrong, I support our troops with every inch of my heart, and I did agree with taking action after 9/11. We went after the true culprits of the attack, for like a minute? Then Bush went after what his daddy couldn't. No, this is not a win situation. Why should he try to impose democracy on a country where the majority of the population doesn't even WANT a democracy. A panel of his peers even told him that the direction in which this war is going will prove to have a disastrous outcome if the focus isn't changed. Bush practically ignored them. I'm not even sure what he is even trying to prove anymore. All this is doing now is increasing the deficit, killing our soldiers and making America look really bad.

There will be no military resolution to Iraq! The generals have already given up on trying to win it! The solution will be political!

We are in a civil war that we started!

Yes.

Unfortunately the commanders on the ground have had their hands tied since day one. This could have been over by now, but because the administration did not listen to the leaders on the ground, we are still fighting.

Can we still finish the job? Yes. We simply need to listen to the commanders on the ground.

Bottom line, if we pull out with Iraq like it is, the vacuum left behind will be filled by Iran and Terrorists. We will wind up going back. Since you haven't been there and you prob haven't even served in the service, I don't expect you to understand. Just sit back and let us do our jobs without whining.

Actually the war has already been won. The purpose was to take out Saddam Hussein. That was accomplished a long time ago. We are currently occupying Iraq. There is nothing more to win or lose.
