Very interesting. The battle of 1859, known as the battle of Magenta which happened on june 4th 1859. French-Sardininian war against the Austrians (second War of Italian Independence) in Lombardy, northern Italy. The narrow french victory (under Napolean III) over the Austrians was an important step toward Italian independence, leading many districts and cities to throw off Austrian rule and join the cause of Italian unity.

It took place in the town of Magenta in northern Italy
Napoleon III's army crossed the Ticino River and outflanked the Austrian right forcing the Austrian army under General Gyulai to retreat.
