VECTOR V-8: 1200 HP. The gif image here -- which is linked to a larger jpg photo -- shows the new 20 liter VECTOR Iveco V-8 marine diesel engine. Available now for export applications, this engine will be introduced here in the US in late 2005. The V08 ENT M12 marine diesel is very compact, exceptionally robust, features a common rail fuel injection system with total electronic control, and has a maximum rating of 1200 hp at 2300 rpm.
Planned, but still in engineering development, are marine versions of the V-12 30 liter and V-16 40 liter VECTOR engines, with hp ratings in excess of 2100 hp.
The Queen Mary 2's power plant comprises both four 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 16V46C EnviroEngine marine diesel engines generating a combined 67200kW.

I didnt look amything up, but from experiance I would say an Aircraft Carrier would have the largest and most HP.
There are a number of Container Ships that are quite impressive, Holland1, BigLift2 and some others. But I am not thinking they have the actuall HP as what an Aircraft Carrier uses.
There is also a Carribean Cruise Lines ship recently delivered that has some impressive features in those areas.
Sedems like the Metherlands and Holland are the worlds largest Ship Builders,
Vietnam and Korea are building some now.
The Nimits Class Carrier is still hands down the largest and most powerfull.

There was just an article in Maritime Reporter on the largest diesel ever made, I believe by Deutz MMW. Unfortunately I threw it out a few weeks ago. The engine is going into the largest container ship ever made and I think its about 94000hp but maybe you can check online at maritme reporter.
Oops, below is the corrext answer!

The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful Diesel engine in the world.
At 108,920 hp....it's the worlds biggest, most powerful diesel engine.
It has 14 cylinders...The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters).
Some facts on the 14 cylinder version:
Total engine weight: 2300 tons (The crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons.)
Length: 89 feet
Height: 44 feet
Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm
Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm
Even at its most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour.
This site even has photos....this engine is AMAZING!
