I have had something like this happen to me too. I have a Compaq as well. I have had to manually shut down my computer. I finally bought a anti-spyware/anti-virus program and a system mechanic program to clean up all the junk on my computer. It runs much better now. Sounds like it might be some kind of virus, or something that is interferring with your computer functioning normally. I don't think there is anything wrong with the computer itself, just what's on the computer.

may be your dll file got currupted,
Insert your Windows CD, it will ask for option, select repair. Now it will automatically repair your file. NOTE: by doing this you will not loose your data. Hopefully this will solve your problem. I suggest if you are frequent surfer on internet, periodically clean your disc by right clicking on your C drive and select clean. This will clean all your temporary files which will improve your PCs performance.
