I do know this much: At first he was a fast talking, wise-cracking rabbit that used his wits and cunning to outsmart his enemies...then during the 50's he was changed to a more modest and humble character to act as a foil to the egotistic Daffy Duck.

Yes he has changed. The earlier version looked more like a rabbitt. I don't know of any websites, however, just check into the warner brothers site and it should have references to history on it.
