I think if the members of the club of 14 + Chelsea left the English league then it woould probably make the Premier League more level. Ie we woudl return to the state prior to the formation of the league when a small club weel run well managed with good palyers can win the league (eg a Notts Forest), or where one of the alos rans in the premier league could win (eg a West Ham.. or whoever).
I think it would be better for the smaller clubs.. there would be less pressure to waste money on specualtive players in a desparate bid to stay in the Premier League.
However I suppose the real question is would SKY lavish as much money on Premiership football if it was missing the Londion Clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea, Totenham and Manchester United) & Liverpool. I dont see why not, after akll they also covert he European Championship... but then again the maoun of money going into the lower leagues plummetted when the premiership was formed. the question would be who do the public want to watch the gang of 4 + Chelsea or the rest of the Premiership. There would be another issue in as much as how would clubs migrate to or from european football.
Personally I think the current structure of the premierhsip is unsustainable.. the disparity between the winning clubs and the lowest clubs is outrageous ... if you want a successfull league). Its purely dependant on TV money. if, as shown when ITV Digital collapsed, the money dissppears then all the clubbs are in deep trouble.

Probably.
I don't think the so-called 'Big 4' will remain as the big 4 for long. Liverpool and Arsenal are having mediocore seasons for the second year running. And look at the other challengers for the CL spots. Bolton, Pompey, Spurs etc.
Football is such that different teams enjoy different fortunes throughout the years. Chelsea weren't even considered a proper contender until Abramovich came in. And it wasn't that long ago that Newcastle qualified for the CL. And look where they are now.
In a decade's time there will be another set of teams who will be called the 'Big 4'. If the current big 4 left for the Super League, sooner or later they would have to return due to lack of success, and their place taken by the new set of big 4s.

If the so called big 4 dropped out of the Premiership to form a European League, Sky Sport would follow soon after. The premiership without Arsenal Man Utd Chelsea and Liverpool would farcical. Tottenham, Newcastle, Bolton et al would never be able to claim they 'won the title' if the 4 biggest team weren't there to compete. The liklihood of this situation ever existing is minimal, simply because without the revenue from Sky, Sponsorship etc football in this country would die on its feet after a few years.
People need to remember that Football is a sport, but the sport of Football is big buisness

It would not do English clubs any good people need to think of a the money pumped in to clubs form sky and also how many average supporters could afford to follow there team round week in and out if they are constantly playing all over Europe it would be impossible if you want to see teams outside big 4 win league that is what championship is 4 and the other lower leagues

OMG, I have to agree with a Spud.
But, if the Big 4 did leave and join with the European super clubs in some sort of European Superleague (the one we have now called the Champion's League should be just that - for Champions!!) then for Spuds at least 1961 might happen again... but only might....
;)
To answer Busterdomino with a question... Has levelling really solved the big teams dominating in the NFL? How many teams are there in the Conferences and how many have actually won a Superbowl?

The "great divide" between the top four and the rest of the Premiership, is slowly closing .... im thinking it maybe even sooner than 5-10 years that we see some big changes in the Premiership, especially at the top. Obvious contenders will be Aston Villa and Manchester City, but anything can happen in the wonderful World of Football cant it!

they would be replaced (obvious really)
the effect would be detrimental, obviously the 'big four' can't just be guaranteed their places, so if they get relegated another english club would have to come up, and would buy more european players. the relegated team would have a massive wage bill but would make less money and sell all of its (foreign) players to the smaller prem. clubs; again increasing the influx of non-british players. sky would only show matches from the super-league and premiership clubs would have to increase their ticket prices, and they wouldn't be able to strike a balance between an amount the fans were willing to pay and an amount to keep the club going. fans of the europe league teams would lose interest playing teams from europe, having to travel so far and spending so much money.
thankfully it will never happen

Although it is not an answer to this question, more of a spin off, how can we restructure the Premiership to avoid a rich club monopoly?, in the NFL and Aussie Rules, a levelling out has been achieved to a degree by "draft choice/salary cap" measures. The Ethiopian in the energy supply, is Messrs Sky. Interested to see what others think.

it will never happen, & all the opposing clubs need these teams in the league...yes, these 4 teams maybe the ones who challenge mostly for the trophys but that should only inspire the others to better themselves....i do think though that all clubs (from wotever league) should have to name a certain amount of home grown players in the match day squad....i also think to make this possible that english players fees shouldnt be so high...thats why so many foreigners are in the league today as they are cheaper

I don't think that there is anything wrong with this season, it has been EXCITING and the table has been pretty close. The season isn't over yet, either. Anything could happen! Just look at Chelsea, everyone said they were going to just run away with it because they have so much $$$. They are still doing OK, but it just proves that no matter how much money a club has... there are going to be injuries and such...your bench could always be deeper.
