I have checked hoses - heater core is external to internal system to my knowledge - no leakage anywhere visible- must be internal unit hose or tubing leak - does anyone know where and how to open internal unit to check?

I get tons of heat- have run on full heat and passenger side shows no leakage or wettness - it has to be small leak inside unit where air goes over the heating tubes- possibly bad connection clamp- this has been ongoing for some time- almost no coolant level changes- added once over 2 yr period and that was maybe 8 oz + in volumn. To find small leak is my hope- need to know how to get at internal area where air flows past internal tubing to check on possible leak- any thoughts there ?

Only notice smell and residue when fan blows onto windows - worried on possible health issues as antifreeze and the body do not mix well.

You have a leaking heater core, or a hose leaking at your heater core.

Check your carpet on the passenger side to see if it is wet. That's a sure sign that this is the problem.

Top your coolant system off, and get your core replaced as soon as possible. You are looking at about a $750 repair/replacement.

Your heating core is gone! it is located in the firewall, (of the engine compartment) and you can identify it by the two sizable hoses for entry and exit of radiator fluid from the engine.

It is hard to get at, but only a couple of bolts to take it off. You will find it has a crack, on the inner face on the underside.

I have replaced dozens of them...

I think Patches is right on the money with heater core, or possible the evaporator.

Anti-freeze smell and foggy windows in the cab are both very good signs that your heater coil is shot.
