I am thinking of calling my new baby daughter Grune but my partner says the name rhymes with prune which is a dried fruit. My partner wants to call the child Sevenofnine after a TV show character - but I think that name is stupid!
Do you agree that Grune is a nice name (even though it rhymes with prune) and that Sevenofnine is a bad name for a little girl?

You must be having a laugh!
Whats wrong with a normal name?

You are setting her up to be bullied, even by the nerdy kids that would normally be the target.

They are both silly. Remember the child will be an ADULT one day. Grune conjures up images of a civil servant on mid to low wages or a topless dancer who will call herself anything as long as it isn't Grune.
Sevenofnine sounds like the person's parents don't respect him/her as a human being.
Choose carefully, my friend and think it through.
What name may sound cool or pretentious to you could be devastating to a child when they have to socialise with other children and their name will set the scene for their future depending on how they handle it.
Both those names require a NATURALLY strong personality and frankly, you would need to take some time to see if the child could carry it off.
If you're going on to an answer site to ask strangers, then you aren't able to handle the consequences of naming your child burdensome names.
Sounds rude but to the reasonable and logical, it it true.

before i read the whole of the question and the heading i was thinking grune the prune and that is more than likely what she will get called when she gets older and is at school children can be very evil these days, when naming yr child you have to think of these things,so i tend to agree with yr partner on that one but i also agree with you that sevenofnine is absolutlely ridiclous poor baby, sorry to be so forward but i am answering honestly and choosing your childs name is one of the biggest thing you will do

I also thought of prune when I heard it, and the other is terrible! This is going to be the kids name for life! They will always have to explain it. Try to remember when picking the name that it is cool to pick something unique- but it is not the name that will make your child unique and special- hey will be that from the moment you meet them. Good luck.

both sound bad. Think of the poor child's future if you named her that!!

Think of a name that represents you as a family and how you want her to be percieved.

If you want her to be a business woman or an actress, consider a name that is strong but feminine too. Think of names with positive conotations, not PRUNES or somtething that looks like a website address (sevenofnine).

Please be kind to your daughter, give her a decent name!!

I don't like Grune. Not only does it rhyme with prune, but it also reminds me of grunt.

I don't like Sevenofnine either. I agree with you that it is stupid.

How about Rune? It is similar to Grune but doesn't have the grunt factor.

Grune the Prune is the first thing I thought of, too. Sevenofnine isn't anything that she'd want to be called, either. Why don't you come of with something seminormal?

Sorry love, but I think both names will cause a lot of unhappiness to your little girl when she gets a little older. I would advise to reconsider, however if you really insist Gnune is better than Sevenofnine you have to imagine calling the name out on the street...

I like Prune as a girls name. Bob Geldof called his daughter Peaches, why not Prune?
If you had a brother or sister for Prune you could call it Muesli.

Personally I don't like and I always love off the cuff or odd names. I hate normal names like Kristen or James. But it's your baby and people will be telling what's right or wrong forever you have to do whats best for you and the baby. But seeing as how you asked my opinion I don't like either name Grune or Sevinofnines.

*gasp* Grune???? It sounds like a crippled 110 year old lady who has been sitting around waiting to die! Don't do that!!!! She's going to have to put this stuff on resumes and essays you know! Be nice! As far as your hubby's pick: I've heard of little boys being named "Seven" (usually child no. 7). I think it definately NOT feminine enough for a girl.
