rather than other words referring to a certain amount of time an age is not a cold equation based on the clock. an age is more of the calculation of a time based on a certain idea or event, take for example the "age of methology" (first thing that came to my min "the game:p) it refers to the time where ppl. belived in all types of meths and all...the time period it refers to if the roman and greek time. another age, which is shorter than that of the myths, is "the age of imperlism" or the age of the industrial revolution...in an age numbers are not the X factor, but the events are the factor which makes each event unique than the other......

Ages i think are usually determined by defining events. The age of enlightnement was defined by the number of great thinkers that came out during that time. Or the rennosance was defined by all the great artwork that came out of that age. There have been golden ages often marked by peace and prosperity. So it really depends they can be long or short.

This is apparently quite arbitrary; usually an age exists until the quality that defined it has changed and become something else, such as the New Stone age becoming the Bronze age.
