I'm just curious. I used to work for an employer who paid us half a day's pay for every unused sick day we had remaining at the end of the calendar year. Where I work now, we get nothing. If you do get a reward, what type of place do you work (office, insurance company, etc.)?

I am very well treated by my employer at the University where I work. Fantastic salary, trips, golf, free food, time off whenever I want, including time off for a sick child. I haven't had a sick day in years, 5 weeks a year vacation not including two weeks off paid at Christmas, so I don't go looking for any reward for no sick time....

When I worked at a hospital, I left with over 200 hours of sick time and got nothing for it! I felt punished for not calling in sick more often. Most of my other jobs in health care have lumped holidays, sick time, and vacation together. It didn't matter why you were taking time off - you either had it or not.

At my job, we don't even get sick pay. If you are sick you either take a vacation day or a day without pay. They are pretty generous with holidays and bonuses but the sick pay situation sucks! Be thankful that your job at least gives you sick pay!

My employer doesnt allow us to carry sick days over to the next year, but what they do do is, the fewer sick days we take, counts toward our bonus merit system which will allow us to make up to an extra $3to $4 per hour.
