This morning my monitor just started flickering along with a small clicking noise that seems to be coming from the monitor. It flickers every time it makes the clicking sound every 5 seconds or so. I think it's because it's being used in long periods of time and maybe needs to be off for a while.

The resolution is 800x600 the refresh rate is 75 Hz , I just turned the computer back on and it didn't start again until after 15 minutes or so but it's a lot less frequent now haven't heard it in a while. I suppose it hasn't stopped completely but i'll keep pc use to a minimum til I can get a better monitor. Thanks for your responses.

Last thing, how much time would you say i have left before the monitor goes bad or dies altogether?

The click you are hearing is a safety device inside the High Voltage Power Supply inside your monitor. It does that to keep the thing from burning up. Its called crowbaring. Sorry to say, but It means your monitor is about to die. The power supply can be changed, but that would cost about as much as getting a new one (unless you were good friends with an IT guy like me...lol)

It will click when it changes refresh rate and this will cause the flicker it will also do this if it is auto DEGAUSSING the screen although the frequency of this happening indicates something is wrong on your system. Have you tried to lower your screen refresh rate or lowering the resolution as you might be working at the limits of the monitor.

I agree, sounds like your monitor is dying if not gone.I'd simply replace with a used or new one.Good luck. The clicking you hear is a bad sign so yeah,go on and replace the monitor.
