There are many species of beetles. Among the most common ones are potato and cucumber beetles.

They normally eat the leaves of these plants.

It would depend on the species of beetle. Wood lice eat rotting vegetation. You would be fairly safe with dead leaves soil and rotting wood for most beetles.They do not like to be too dry and are not keen on sunlight!
