Early, your lower abdomen can get a little puffy (as it can with fluid retention during PMS). In early pregnancy that puffiness is also fluid retention.
When you really start to show, though, its more a matter of your waistline thickening first.

You notice it first below your belly button then it moves up. If you are over weight it can look a little different than the perfect little pooch.

this is how im looking, and im 7 1/2 months along, it looks as though my baby has already dropped but its always been this way!!! some have cute right in the middle showing bellies!!! but it really depends on your body

Lower, since that is where your womb is. As you get farther along, the 'bump' slowly moves up.

it's starts lower like period bloat, but it grows and grows to the top eventually.

you show first very, very, low. Right above where your hair starts, is where it will start swelling up.
