I have had tendinitis for over a year now. I am a full time housekeeper (heavy cleaning) I have been for 7 years. I just found out Jan.2nd that I am pregnant. This is my first pregnancy. I am 26 and for the past month I have had problems with my shoulder and now my neck. I went to the doctor on the 2nd because of my shoulder and neck. The neck thing is gone now. but shoulder still hurts when used. I have a week off and I am going to the OB-GYN today and I am so scared that I have an ectopic prenancy. I have read the symptoms and the only one I have is shoulder but that could be the tendinitis. The part that scares me is that when he told me and then started checking my shoulder I fainted. Now I aslo pass out when my blood is taken. Which is a greater chance? Ectopic pregnancy or just pregnant with tendintits?

Shoulder pain as a sign of a ectopic pregnancy only occurs from irritation caused by blood in the peritoneal cavity. blood in the peritoneal cavity is caused by an ectopic pregnancy rupturing in the tubes. Even before the ectopic pregnancy ruptures you would have had severe cramps and tenderness in the lower pelvic region with one side hurting more then another. My guess is that you are pregnant with tendinitis. Good luck to you!

S/S of ectopic pregnancy include but aren't limited to:
pain:colicky then severe
nausea and vomiting
Temperature around 37.8 degrees C
Tenderness with movement of the cervix
Dark red/brown discharge
White blood cells count to 15,000.
An ultrasound is almost widely used to rule this out!

It would be wrong for someone on here to even guess about what the greater chance is.

Since you know you've had the tendonitis you at least have a possible explanation for the pain.

It seems to me (although I don't pretend to have background in this) that if you are so worked up and afraid (as with having blood taken and thinking about an ectopic pregnancy while the doctor checked the shoulder) there's a chance the fainting has nothing to do with the pregnancy.

Just try to assume its the tendonitis for now. You'll stay calmer that way. If it turns out to be an ectopic pregnancy the doctor can deal with it (its still a very early pregnancy, so you don't have a lot of time invested in it). If it were ectopic you can still go on and have other children.

Good luck. I hope its just the tendonitis.

Very normal. I have had tendinitis in my shoulder for at least 10 years now. Sometimes I can go years without a flare up. BUT, in the early stages of my pregnancies, it flares up BAD. But, it goes away. Since you are pregnant now, I would suggest finding a job that doesn't include heavy lifting. Your pain will probably let up in about a month or so. Please try not to worry and stress, for that can be damaging to your baby. It's okay!

I think you are worring right now.. Go to the OBGYN first they will do an ultra sound. I pass out when my blood is taken too. You will get used to it after the nine months believe me. We all ( speaking about women) get nervous, you are carring a special package. Try to breath a little and enjoy this time.
