Calls are screened electronically for keywords. With clever compression and lots of money to burn, it is possible to record many if not all calls for later analysis. i.e. if the phone is implicated in something at a later date.

On most phones, it is possible to track a signal from that phone as long as there is a call being made. Using mathematic formulas of triangulation, a person can determine the signal strength at several different towers which are sharing the signal from the phone. By comparing strengths and measuring relative distances from each tower, the approximate location of a call can be determined.

Yes. The phone number is registered. If you are being followed, all they have to do is determine that you have a cell phone. Wouldn't be hard for a government agency to find out the phone number and track it.

The phone service provider knows what you're doing with your phone and if any official needs your phone records, they can get them from the provider.

Your phone doesn't need GPS service to be found ... it is a GPS unit when it's in use. Anybody with the right equipment can find any cellular phone when it's in use by triangulation with communication satellites and your phone. You can't hide anymore!

Assuming you live in the USA, your cell phone can be monitored at random by the US government (homeland security) and if you call an emergency number (911) they can trace where you are.

There are devices people can buy (illegally) in the US that also allow anyone to listen in to someones calls, but I am not sure if they can actually track where you are or your phone #.

Maddog above has the correct answer. Your Cellphone provider can determine roughly where you are and always who you call, and if Homeland Security or the FBI or CIA want get a copy of that record, they can do so, with very little delay.

Did I read that someone wrote that every call made is listened to?? LAWLS!!! That would take, like, a bajillion people.

In this day & age, anything and everything can be tracked. Years ago, terrorists & drug dealers used "throw away" cell phones for illegal activities. But the government has been on to that trick for over a decade now, so I'm sure they can track everything.

Well, they can track calls, they can narrow it down to cell sites (towers) and times. If you are that worried, why don't you just use a payphone?

Prepaid phones are going to be a little bit better because you don't get a bill, but is the phone registered to you? They're probably not afer you, bro.
