What do people from China, or Italy for example eat when they want to eat American (like we in the US got out for Chinses or Mexican)? Is it called eating American? And what to they serve in an "American" resteraunt?

For Italian living people, "mangiare all'americana" ("eating American way") is mostly related to McDonald's-like menus; sometimes somebody may think to Texas and steaks, but McDonald's is by large representing US eating habits...
