Welcome to the real world! Guess what? There are rules everywhere. If you live in a dorm or an apartment, there are rules about noise levels and conditions and what you can and cannot do in your room/apartment. Even when you buy or rent a house, the neighborhood will have rules.

At 18 I became a Lieutenant in the canadian Armed forces. Education wise I was far more than a high school senior. You asked in Law in Ethics so I will answer both ways.

Ethically, you are under their roof their rules apply, I'm sure at 18 you didn't buy them the house.

Law, fail to abide by thier rules they need only say one word "out" and you become guilty of crimminal trepass. At best you are a roomer NOT a tenant, tenant protection laws do not apply.

I would bet the punishment you speak of is for something at least technically illegal and so much more lienent then the courts would hand out. As for curfew someone who comes in at anytime is disruptiive rude and inconsiderate.

These things apply to anyones residence not just your parents. Sounds like a Sincere apology would go a long way. Think about it long enough and it will be sincere.

When I was 18 I had dropped out of high school and got involved with many bad things and ended up living from place to place. So,I would follow the rules of your parents because not everybody is that lucky to have that choice.

No, not at all. Move out. Get your own place. Pay all your own bills and tell them just where to stick their rules. That will show them you mean business.

This is important because right now, and for the next few years, you are at the point in life where you know everything there is to know. It's important to act before you start to forget things.

If you live under their roof - then you abide by their rules.

There is this misconception that because you are 18 that you get do what you want - not true as long as you continuing to be supported by other people in their home.

It's a fair question. You can answer it yourself by asking yourself these questions:
1. who pays for your living space?
2. who pays for the food you eat?
3. who pays for transportation to/from wherever you go?

That should lead you to a fair answer. If you are old enough (or rather, responsible enough) to do these things for yourself, then you are responsible enough to have free reign. If you truly want more independence but are not ready to move out, consider making a financial deal with your parents - compensation in exchange for more freedom. Make sure your ideas are well thought out and concise so they take you seriously.

As long as you live in your parents home you need to go by their rules. I am sure they only want the best for you. Stay in school, get a really good education. If YOU CAN AFFORD IT and DON'T NEED A PLACE TO STAY FOR FURTHER EDUCATION and CAN GET A JOB AND PAY YOUR OWN EXPENSES, then you are ready to get your own place and set your own rules.

Don't act impulsively.

That depends on what your parents are like and if you were living with them or not.

If you were my kid, you'd probably be following my rules until you were 35, cause you sound like an ****, and I'd have to kick the snot out of you alot.

Are they stil supporting you? ie; housing/shelter,clothing,food,
transportation,? In other words still providing you with the very fundamental basics of life? Are they still covering your medical expensives also? Are you still going to them for lifes answers?
Are you still in their house sponging off them? YES you have to follow their rules! It's their house; NOT yours. When you become self-supporting then you can make your own rules.

Are you paying for the roof over your head and the food in your stomach? THAT's when you get to start living by your own rules - not when you turn a certain age.
