Clean or replace your filters and go to any Sears store and ask for their humidifier additive. You add a capfull to the water and It prevents mold and mildew and it won't smell any more. It works GREAT! I have had 0 problems from my humidifier since getting this stuff and I have a HUGE humidifier! Good luck

The holding tank for the water probably has grown mold or mildew and that is the source of the odor. You need to remove the water from the tank and clean with a mold/mildew cleaner, dry thoroughly and refill. You can also add a liquid scent to the water to give it a fresh smell after cleaning.

Run white vinegar through it, and soak the filter in white vinegar.

It will clean the humidifier, and once it's rinsed, it won't leave an odor.

If it is a whole house humidifier (one that's mounted to your heating/cooling system) you probably need to change the evaporator pad inside it. You should do that annually. Also, air duct cleaning is a good suggestion. I have my air ducts cleaned once a year.

Read your instruction manuel and see if you can wash your filters with something other than water, if so, wash with a little vinegar....This should help the smell go a way...

I would clean it, change the filter, or buy a new one. It sounds like your filter is old. It can cause health problems.
