If you have the background & training to support it, Sales & Marketing can be very lucrative - but it is hard, demanding and creative work. You need to be able to connect with your clients and their customers in order to form the ideal marketing plan to produce revenue. It really helps to be a people person who stays on top of current trends, communicates well and has the ability to work well in a team environment.

'Business' is a pretty generic term. Any business from retail to corporate lawyers and beyond has strong business demands that must be met on all levels by professionals of many different types. Business can tend to be more political and deal with more paper pushing and procedures than a marketing or sales job which tends to rely more on creativity and action to produce results.

Companys, like jobs and pay, can vary widely. You need to do your research on what's in your area or areas you would be willing to relocate to. Do searches on monster.com and other sites to determine what employers are looking for in as far as job skills and experience and see how close you fit the bill. Check out what the average pay rates are and see if it's what you were hoping for.

You also need to consider your wants, needs, current skills and potential training that you will need to take in order to achieve your career goals. Sometimes, looking for the right career can be a job unto itself - take the time, do the research, consult with professionals in your area & talk to your local job service or employment agency if you have one. I even recommend hitting the library or local college for additional information.

I hope this helped. Best of luck in your search!

Sometimes they are the same thing. In business, you always have to keep marketing top-of-mind so customers know you exist.

Selling for someone else is hard work. There is often competition stabbing you in the back, and you can be out on your butt if you don't keep the numbers up. I have my own business now, but for 21 years I worked side by side with radio ad salespeople and it was DEPRESSING to watch what they had to go through.
