I bought a baby monitor off of ebay yesterday for $14 that retails at $75. My husband had a fit because he wants a video baby monitor...infact..the one he wants is just shy of $200....Don't you think this is too much for a baby monitor? Most people will only use it once..maybe twice..

I don't think the video monitor is necessary. i wouldn't spend more than 40 bucks on my monitor. I hardly used it and I ahve two kids. Its almost like people buying that sterilization thing for baby bottles....????? Whats wrong with a pot of boiling water? Works just as well and its a heck of a lot easier on the wallet

i think that does seem like too much especially if you are always with the baby. I don't even use my monitor unless i need to go outside and the baby is napping. In the house i can hear the baby if she is in her room and i am in any other part of the house. Unless you have a really large house or spend a lot of time on another floor. It's really not necessary and will not get much use a reciever that you can clip on your belt if you want to step outside and pull some weeds or do some yardwork is really more usefull.

Baby monitors a recent invention, yet babies having been doing fine for thousands of years.I didn't have one for my first two children.I would just get a basic monitor so you can hear crying. The fancier the monitor, the higher the levels of anxiety! You don't need to watch your sleeping baby's every breath. Video monitors can make you a little obsessive.Relax and learn to trust your instinct.Remind your husband it's a baby monitor, not another of those boy's toys!

I spent $100 on the Angel Care Bebe Sounds Monitor...and it was the best $100 I ever spent! It blares an alarm when the motion sensor doesn't detect any movement (i.e. breathing) for 10 seconds. It made me relax a little about SIDS and has given me a lot of peace! I even used it when the baby was asleep in his travel crib right next to me in the living room!

Personally, I paid $25 for a basic monitor... I really don't see the need for a video monitor. In the beginning, I would turn the receiver really loud, and I could hear her breathe and sucking on her pacifier. Now I am not so nervous, so I use a lower volume.

If you hear anything funny, you can always tiptoe in and check.

for some poeple video monitors ar eessential as they are worried what may happen to their baby whilst they are sleeping.
are there none on Ebay you could buy cheaper?
what about looking around at NCT meetings - where parents see used baby goods ( a bit like a car boot)
I'm sure if you look around you'll be able to find one cheaper - (they retail in UK for around £99)

I would say anything over $150 is too much.
