I have an idea and i want to patent it through the government. I have had many fake companies try to patent the idea for me but what is the right way?

Contact a patent lawyer.

Contact the US patent office. Ask them to mail you a application for a patent. No one can or will do this for you. Some will try to steal the Idea from you as they pretend to want to help you. I did it, you can also. I also got some good books at the Library and read them first.

First of all, you cannot patent an idea. It has to be reduced to practice to be patentable.

Second, goto the US patent office website - www.USPTO.gov. You can run a search on patents to find out if your idea has already been patented.

Then, and only then, start your application.
