Sex linked disorders are carried (mostly anyway) on the X chromosome. Females humans have 2 X chromosomes in theire karyotype. XX =female XY = male.
Say a carrier female mates with an afflicted male.
(Little x represents a chromosome with the affliction... but actually is usually indicated with a line drawn through the upper right arm of the X. I cant show it using this format.)
Carrier female = Xx
Afflicted male = xY
Xx + xY (possible offspring are listed below.

Xx XY xx and xY (the last two are afflicted and the first one Xx is a carrier, xx is the afficted daughter)

Hemophilia and color blindness follow these kinds of inheritance.

Provides a couple with the probability of their children being completely healthy. If there is a significant chance that the baby will be born with a deadly or life-ruining disease, this may affect their decision in having a child.
