What/Who exactly are the Fatahs and the Hamas? I've recently been reading up on world news and I've read about strife going on between these two groups in the Middle East but I know nothing about them.

Fatah is the dominant faction within Yasser Arafat's PLO organization, I think they're pretty much synonymous now, with Fatah being the preferred term for the political organization that has grown out of the terrorist group and currently (sort of) governs the Palestinian territories.

Hamas is a more recent and more militant rival group that has been growing in strength and political popularity. While the Fatah seems to have tried to find some ways to peacefully co-exist with Israel, Hamas is apparently still commited only to Israel's destruction.
