Wow now i'm confused! Do you really get birth control from your doctor. I was told you have to have that pap test before you can get them. I was wondering why i need that test when i haven't had sex before. See i am waiting til i get married and i am engaged and want to start birth control.

You should have started much sooner than that. If you will be taking bcp that means you are sexually active and once sexually active this test should be performed once a year. Prevention is the best way to go.
The test takes about 2minutes. It does not hurt but you will feel a slight discomfort. They are basically scraping and collecting cells from your cervix so it can get a bit uncomfortable.
But that is all...
Good luck.

Very few doctors will prescribe birth control for you unless you have a pap done.I would question any doctor that just hands birth control out randomly. They are testing for any type of disease you may have and to ensure that all your "parts" are working right.
The test itself is not painful, just uncomfortable.Make sure you let the doctor know that you are a virgin, they do have smaller tools they can use to make it more comfortable for you and hopefully will be a little more gentle.
The exam consists of examining your breasts to check for lumps. They will probably do an internal, where the doctor inserts his/her finger into your vagina to check your ovaries, after that they will insert a tool that expands your vagina so they can take a scrapping of your cervix.Sometimes they do a rectal exam also. Some years they do this on me,sometimes not.The test itself only takes a few minutes.
I must say,you are to be commended for remaining a virgin until your wedding night.Very refreshing,I wish I would have waited,it makes it so much more special
Best thing to do is just try to relax.I don't know any women who really likes getting these exams done, but they are important.
You may be more comfortable going to a woman doctor to get this done,at least in the beginning.Planned parenthood usually has women doctors,so you may want to give them a try.
Good luck to you and your upcoming marriage.

I've had a pap and it takes a minute and it doesnt hurt a bit.
They take something long and stick it up inside to get your c-m sample and it only tickles and then your done.
(are u a virgin?) They do paps on people who had sex to make sure your ok and healthy.
I asked cause its a little odd that your 24 and didn't have a pap done.
You don't have to get a pap to get birth control cause I have birth control and you just ask your docter for it.
1. They put you on the bed and spread your legs wide.
2. Then they take the thing and stick it inside and move it all around to get the c-m and your done.
GOOD LUCK! and don't worry it will be fine.

The pap test itself does not hurt at all. All t he doctor does is take a long cotton swab and swab your cervix. There may be some discomfort from the tool they use to open your vagina so they can see your cervix. It's called a speculum (sp?) The best thing to do is just try to relax and loosen your muscles down there. Its really not a big deal and Ive never had one that hurt. It usually only takes less the five minutes for the whole thing.

It doesn't hurt at all. It's just alittle embarrassing, that's all. It only takes a few minutes. After the pap test, your dr. will probably ask if you want to go on birth control, and as long as you appear healthy, they will prescribe it for you. The first time you go is the worst, but each year it gets easier. After you go, you'll feel glad you went.

oh sweetie a pap test is nothing to be affraid of.. it's not painful.. a bit uncomfortable maybe but usually there is no pain.. it takes about 20 minutes from the physical to the pap test.. for ur first time ur gyno usually does a consult in their office before taking u into an examining room they tell u whats going to happen and ask u a few questions.. then u go into the examining room get undressed put on a gown they check ur breasts for lumps, then ur pelvis for masses and then they start the pap itself.. u get in the stir ups and from there the gyno should go step by step with what they are doing from the insertion of the instruments to exactly what they are doing.. if ur super scared tell the gyno they usually make it as comfortable as they can for u... at 24 u should definately go to the gyno for a precaution check.. to check for cervical cancer, bacterial infections, breast lumps and any other female problem.. a gyno visit is not painful by anymeans just a little uncomfortable.. i wish u the best
