Most jobs won't let you take them because you were not working and had them off anyway. If, however, your employer will let you have them. Please give us a post saying where you work. There will be a lot of new people applying!

In most offices the general practice is to carry forward the unutilised leave for the next year. Some offices pay for unutilised leave perhaps as an incentive for not taking too much leave. Others simply forget about and clean the slate clean. However if you have utilised leave in excess of the permitted sick leave you may have to forfiet all leave available sick, casual or privilege, to set the record straight.

Each company can be different, best ask your HR dept or consult your contract as there is no clear cut rule for everyone. You may have lost the days, but you may be able to get the money instead or carry over at least a few days of it (some companies allow 5 days to be carried over)

I agree with most people here ... you will not get the holiday's from last year. You were off and either got paid for them through sick leave or vacation, or didn't get paid because you were on FMLA. Anyway, you are out of luck . Just be glad that you can go back to work after being off for about 10 months.

Unless your particular job allows you to "carry over" holidays-vacation days, then you have unfortunately, just lost them. They start over with the new year. In fact, some jobs even take those holidays before they start paying with short term disability.

You should not lose your holiday entitlement, see your manager and have a one' to 'one' and request that the holidays are carried over or paid to you in Lew. If you are in a union see your steward or local Representative. You are defiantly entitled to your holiday whether you have been out sick or not.

the best thing you can do is sit down with your employers and find out what you are entitled to.
Also what are their policies on sickness and holidays, and how this relates to you as an employee.
If you don't ask you will never know?
