You'll never get out of the parties nomination process without consenting to the will of the party. So it doesn't looking bright for pro-choice republicans or pro-life democrats. All candidates don't walk in lock step with a party platform, but if they want to represent that party in the General Election than they better say the right things or down the tube they go.

Two possibilities:
1. He has reconsidered his position over the years. I hate it when people are not given the benefit of the doubt about these sorts of things... I myself have changed my mind on the issue in the past 10 years.
or...
2. He's saying what he thinks prospective voters want to hear, in order to improve his political prospects.
I'll leave it to others to decide which is true.

People disregard this fact when it becomes convenient. It's easy to be cruel and merciless when you face no repercussion, isn't it?

Why flip-flop? 'Cause he's a politician, plain and simple. Which politicians don't flip-flop?
Bill Clinton promised gay people that he would lift the ban on gays in the military. Did he?
