Generally the reason they start school (grade through highschool) so early is so that the parents have time to get their kids off to school and then make it to work by 8am (because 8 is the most common start time). So, for this reason I say no, the time is ok for most people. There are always going to be people that this is not convenient for and a ton of reasons it isn't convenient for them. It also helps prepare the child for work after school.

Personally I am not a morning person, and if it were up to me I wouldn't work a 7-3 shift, but that is the most convenient for the school system and for my step-daughter.

As far as from the kids point - when you get to college it is very easy not to have early classes.. tough it out till then =p

Nope. If it started later, presumably it would also finish later which would leave less time in the evening for leisure/social time.
Also, I think that people can be more attentive in the morning, so long as you have had a good breakfast, and actually want to learn.
As the day wears on, people get tired and lose motivation (if they ever had any). Besides, other than sleep or maybe sports or something, there is nothing you could do before school (unless you were really really enthusiastic about chess club or something!) so it would be a waste of time. If school started earlier however, (and therefore finished earlier too), people would be more likely to participate in extra-curricular activties.

Just my opinions, hope this helps.

YES! Its been scientifically proven that kids (especially teenagers) don't become fully alert until about 10 am. I don't see the sence in expecting kids to comprehend things before they can be awake! I know I never did as well in things like math when my classes with first thing in the morning as opposed to those that were scheduled after lunch time. I was seriously still in a daze...once I got to college and could make my own schedule-I realized that that was a lot of my problem and never had an 8:00 am class....did waaaay better due to this!

"I would just like to say that I think it would help a great deal if the schools started later in the mornings. It would help people have a better breakfast, get more sleep, be able to concentrate a lot better, and do a lot better in school. It would also probably make it so their weren’t as many people tardy to school every morning."

Yes, well, High School should start no earlier than, say, 9:00 AM. Studies have shown that teens are quite simply on a different daily biological schedule than they were as younger kids.

It would just make sense to try to teach these kids when they're most mentally alert.
