The reasons are pretty clear. Both the main parties BNP and Awamileague are so much corrupted and by any means they want to be elected and form govt. They don't care about the people of Bangladesh. While people are suffereing they are busy with Chaos and Strikes ....costing Billions of dollars and devastating the economy...they are all greedy for power...because once they have power ...they can do more corruption.... their politics is not for the people of the country but their politics is only for themselves ..and their well being. And Just for their corruption and greed, people are suffering a lot. In their speech they say ...they are working only to earn the rights of general people...but what are they really doing? Well ...as long as we are unable to get rid of this politicians...by no chance any good will happen to this country... We need another 1971 to get rid of this dirty Politicians.....because bangladeshis are captivated by this BNP-Awami Cycle....and it's going on and on and..... their is no relief. So the general people of the country has to do somethiing about it...and start a new Revolution.

I may be a bit biased, as I am a westerner who is naturally pro-Awami League, but Bangladesh seems to be on the brink--it could, in the next few years, become a budding secular democracy (although certainly with many problems still to address), or it could become a fascist Islamic theocracy.

Yes, the Awami League is causing a lot of grief for the government and stirring up a bit of chaos, but what is the alternative? There is a good argument that no government is better than the BNP remaining in control, as more and more it caters to Islamic extremists.

Also, two things have become clear: that the people of Bangladesh support voting the Awami League into power, and that the BNP government is taking action (and sometimes inappropriately refraining from action) to try to ensure that the elections are unfair and favor the BNP. The Awami League, of course, cannot allow that and is justifiably protesting--sometimes violently--to ensure that the elections are fair.

Bangladesh is one of the poorest nations in the world. It is understandable that many people turn to radicalism as a result of their dire situation, as such a belief system helps people to accept their situation in life and gain a broader perspective on the world and the supernatural. But, it is critical that the center-left parties of the 14-party alliance stress to the people that their lot in life can actually be improved in their lifetime if they elect 14-party into power, as opposed to the alternative of the radicals, that the people accept their lot in life and try to gain favor for the afterlife by creating chaos and causing further deterioration of the situation in the country.
