2nd hand store are a good source...consignments shops, I have found really nice and expensive clothes for very cheap prices

I have always found Goodwill or Salvation Army a good source for fancy clothes. When someone asks where you got it, tell them it's "vintage".

I also got lots of compliments on a sequined tank top I made at the last minute for a TV appearance- I mean so last minute, I didn't even have time to hem it! I just folded the bottom under. I wore it with black pants and a blazer. It was just a rectangle of sequin fabric from the rem rack at Jo-Anns, with straps instead of sleeves. Without the blazer, I would have bra straps everywhere but with the blazer you can't tell. I never did hem it, just pinked it and now I wear it tucked in.
