I need to write a paper about Political language and how is effecting us.?

My professor said that he wants us to write a paper about bad lanuage and how and when it is being used to get social control. I have to hand in my proposal paper in by Monday. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Do a google on "politically correct" and you'll get a good start.

Equally good is a google on "PC language".

Basically, there are certain things you cannot say, and that kills any free exchange of ideas. And, even when you can talk about certain things (race, gender, etc) then there are words that you cannot use.

The effect:

1. People think that when they use politically-correct language then they are in fact "doing something" when they aren't.

2. People are scared to express their thoughts and opinions, meaning that wrong opinions never get challenged, and sensitive topics never get discussed.

3. Those who seem to control the PC language keep changing the terms, and it becomes a way by which certain people can keep control of their activism. You'd want to look at all the ways that *****/black/afro-american/pan-african/ect people self-describe themselves to see what I'm talking about. Even tho the term "NAACP" has the word "colored" in it, it is not a good idea to call one of their members "colored" -- you will certainly be discounted and scorned if you do.
